Merci pour ce message très gentil sur mes dessins! Oui, je suis une obsédée du détail. Il n’y en a jamais assez. Quand je dessine une écharpe, elle n’est jamais unie mais à pois ou à carreaux. Je ne sais pas faire simple et oui: c’est parfois un problème! xD

I use a tablet, a Wacon Bamboo Fun, a bit like this one. It’s impossible to do what I do with a mouse or just the track pad :)

I’m making observations about your work and I want to know how you do it.

Then ask, anon! I mean, seriously, JUST ASK: “How do you do your art? What is your technique?”. Don’t elaborate theories about people’s work before asking them and no, telling them “you put heads on bodies in Photoshop” and “you don’t seem to understand anatomy or lighting” isn’t a very very nice way to ask, I’m sorry. That’s why people called you out, not because you were asking a technical question.

Now, my technique: I did this big Step by Step though but it was at a time I didn’t know much about CG art and it was just to let people know what was my process because I had a lot of questions. I didn’t have the pretension to teach anything to my LJ followers (particularly with the graphic tablet I had at the time)

Maybe I’ll do another one day, but I’m far too lazy (and busy with my job too)

They were not because artists have often have to deal with rude anons, particularly when they draw realistic style. I know at least 6 artists in the Spn fandom who often, if not constantly, receive anon asks to tell me that they trace/paintover/can’t draw. And it’s just in the Spn fandom, it must be the same thing in the Sherlock, Avengers, Dr. Who fandoms. Dealing with this on a regular basis is boring but no way I’m gonna close my anon ask for those people.

I understand now what you wanted to ask but please, next time, just be careful how you ask people about their technique.

I don't really understand (or particularly care) about the academic specifics but for what it's worth you are one of my top favourite artists ever, and your drawings always look not just beautiful to me but also full of story, emotion, and resonating intent. I can (and do) stare at them for ages, and get happier for that.

Oh, yeah, I remember now, you got some of these too! I think it was when you posted a great Stiles portrait a few months ago! Honestly, don’t listen to them. I have myself some of your original works and they are nothing like tracing or paintovers. Let them talk!

Hands are really awful. Same awfulness as feet. Hands are feet are also the bane of my drawing, so don’t feel alone in that.

Believe me, you are NOT alone. I don’t know a lot of artists who enjoy drawing hands and feet. There are some, but in general, hands and feet are an artist nightmare ><

Nothing like trying to shame the artist who shares their work. Ignore the troll.

I usually do but for once, I decided to answer. Now I have an answer I can copy and paste for the next wave of “your are fake” anon.

Most of the artists who draw realistic style in the Spn fandom had to deal with this kind of stuff. I can’t complain when I see the number of haters poor Euclase attracted…Mamma Mia!

I have nothing against technical questions or even people who are curious and ask me “Do you paint over?” because they don’t know anything about my work, but I don’t like people like this anon who have already made up their mind even before contacting the artist and who are rude to them.

That’s ok, I’m used to it ;) I have this kind of anon asks once in a while, particularly when an art gets more than 1500-2000. It’s a known pattern now ^^

I don’t know. Usually people contact me to tell me that my art makes them uncomfortable because my characters look like the actors far too much. It puts them in a sort of “uncanny valley”. Which is funny because some other people contact me to tell me that I don’t have the likeness right and that I should improve. I think I’m going to organize a meeting between all these people and let them have a cup of tea…

J’en ai 13 à la douzaine comme ça quand je poste un dessin qui dépasse les 1500-2000 notes. C’est comme les crabes avec la marée…Tu poses ton panier et tu attends.

D’habitude, je ne réponds pas car j’en ai marre de devoir de justifier (ça fait 7 ans que je dois me justifier…) mais là, ça me fera une “réponse type” que je pourrais copier-coller à la prochaine vague.

Wow. Do people really send you such rude anons? I’ll never understand why there is so much hate in some people, really. Your art is amazing, and there is no doubt you do it all by yourself. You’re amazing artist. Anon may kindly go to hell.

Yes. It happened a lot when I joined the Avengers fandom and it also happens when I have a “successful” drawing posted. More notes means more people visiting my page and more rude anons too.

I usually delete their messages because I don’t like wank and “wank feeds wank”. In addition, for people like this, whatever you do to justify yourself, it’s never enough. People started to shut up when posted my traditional art because most of the attacks were “you can’t hold a pen, your works are just paint overs”, then people asked me for tutorials and WIPs (which I did on LJ), now, the latest trend is “Why don’t you Live Stream?”. I hate LS with a passion. I don’t like it when people watch me draw, even if some people of the Spn fandom saw me draw live a portrait of Sebastian during the Paris Con last year. I was sitting in the garden behind the venue and I “live streamed” (sort of) in front of people. It was very stressful even if the Spn surrounding me where AMAZING and kind!

Rude anon is rude. But I had to laugh at what you said about hands, my husband draws and curses every time hands are involved and says they are the devil of the human body to make look right.

Hands, how do they work, huh? I HATE drawing hands. If I could draw all my caracters with gloves or hands in their pockets, I would do it!

Do you put heads on bodies in Photoshop and then try to draw over it? I'm asking because your art seems very uncomfortable and awkward, it is as if you are taking faces and trying to match them up with photos and doing it badly, and then trying to hide the seams with tricks and effects. The individual parts of your drawings are very nice, but you don't seem to understand anatomy or lighting. I'm always suspicious when artists are super accurate only some of the time.

Ah, it’s been a while!

If my works were paint overs, I would only be accurate when I draw in Photoshop and not in traditional art. Hell, I wouldn’t post any traditional art! I wouldn’t be able to have such an accuracy with pencils (here and here), ballpoint pens (here, here and here) or even poster paint (here). I wouldn’t fail either, which I do. A lot! Here, here, here and here.

Also, there wouldn’t be any evolution in my artist gallery. In the space of 4-5 years, I went from this to this. I hope I improved a bit.

I’m always suspicious when artists are super accurate only some of the time.

I’m more accurate on faces than hands, for instance, because I prefer drawing faces and in spite of all the efforts I put into practicing anatomy, I still suck at hands. People who have followed this blog for a long time know how much I always complain about it. Feet and hands.

However, I’m unable to draw from memory. I use reference pictures, a lot. That’s why you may think that my art is awkward.

You don’t seem to understand anatomy or lighting.

What, you mean the head isn’t as big as the body? I though I had my anatomy pretty correct…Damn!

I know you must get this a lot, but holy shit your art is AMAZING. I'm in love.

No, I’m sorry, I don’t share my artworks in their HQ versions anymore. I had problems last year with people that used my art on Ebay and Etsy for prints so now, I only post (and share) 850px high versions.
